Sparrow Hawk (Accipiter nisus granti)

Other names: Falcón, pajarero. It lives in all kinds of woodland and open country, in thickets, plantations, etc. It stalks its prey by flying low, and almost always hunts other birds, although on occasion it will take a large insect or a small mammal. It raises its young in April and May in the woodlands next to meadows with trees and at a height of 5 to 30 metres from the ground. It is a subspecies that is endemic to the Canary Islands and Madeira.
