Canary Islands Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus canariensis)

Other names: hornero, chivita. They are generally solitary birds, although sometimes they can be seen in pairs or groups of three. It is a very nervous and active bird. It observes and makes a very detailed exploration of every corner of the trees that it frequents to locate its small prey. You can sometimes see it launching itself into flight from its observation point after a mosquito. From April to July it makes its nest, which consists of a sphere of moss and grass, covered in feathers and with an entrance on the side. It lays from four to seven eggs. It frequents areas with some tree cover or shrubs of variable thickness. In winter, it is easy to see them in small parks and fences. It is a protected species and also a species that is endemic to the Canaries.
