Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea canariensis)

Other names: Barranquera, alpispa. It mainly inhabits the upper and intermediate watercourses of our mountain rivers and of the plains. It is 18 centimetres and nests among the roots and stones by the side or in holes that are already made in the more uneven parts of the riverbank. It raises its young from March to July and feeds on insects which it catches on the banks. It completes its diet with seeds from riverside plants if it stays throughout the year. It is a subspecies endemic to the Canary Islands.
