Canary Islands Long-eared Owl (Asio otus canariensis)

It prefers to inhabit coniferous forests, isolated thickets and groves by the riverside. It is less common in very leafy forests since it stalks from perches and sometimes by flying low, on land with limited vegetation. It measures thirty-five centimetres and feeds on other birds, insects and small mammals. It generally raises its young in old nests of other birds and lays its eggs from February to June. It is a subspecies which is endemic to the Canary Islands.
