Parque Nacional Garajonay

Canary willow (Salix canariensis)

A tree or shrub that is endemic to Macaronesia which grows to a height of 15 metres. It inhabits waterlogged soils, watercourses and oozing walls. It is very important to protect this species as well as the places that it inhabits, as they are moist river habitats that are very rare and threatened in the Canary Islands due to water being piped away.  In the park, it is possible to observe thickets of this species in the El Rejo ravine.
