Canary Islands Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs canariensis)

Other names: chau-chau, pájaro de monte.  This is one of the most abundant fringillidae in Spain. It lives in all kinds of woodlands. On occasion, they form groups organised by sexes. It measures 15 centimetres and builds its nest generally very low in shrubs or trees, where it raises its young from April to July. It feeds on seeds from the forest and damaging insects and it is especially useful because it destroys many chrysalises so as to take advantage of the silk from their cocoons so as to line its nest. It is a subspecies which is endemic to the Canary Islands.
