  • Introduction

The XV edition of Seminar of Environmental Documentation Centers and Protected Natural Areas was attended 47 experts from 13 Autonomous Communities who develop their activities in documentation centers and libraries of the Spanish State. As in previous years, CENEAM, which belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, was the organizer, in collaboration with Documentary Center of the Natural Park of the Zona Volcánica of Garrotxa, Generalitat of Catalonia.

The agreements concluded last year were reviewed and new proposals and challenges were presented until the next announcement. One of them was the possibility of RECIDA becoming an association.

The centers had the opportunity to present their projects and experiences on different topics: institutional repositories, strategic information services, bibliographic information on the SDGs, the development of the documentary profile, small libraries in protected spaces, collaboration with the local environment, content readers, noise awareness, collaboration between the network of public libraries and the network of environmental libraries in Catalonia, and the use of a video on bees as an educative resource. Two workshops were also held: How to better equip our documentation centers and how to make the impact of communication media more effective.

In addition, documentation was exchanged and the breaks (some which were sponsored by Soria Natural) or the excursions were used to get to know the surroundings and make professional contacts. This year, the program included a monographic visit to the Royal Site of San Ildefonso, as Antonio Moreno of CENEAM made a night visit to know the history, the streets and the most unique buildings, a guided tour of some areas of the gardens thanks to Patrimonio Nacional and the fact that the 18th was the International Museum Day to see the fountains in operation.

  • Seminar development

    Wednesday 18th May 2016

After the welcome by the head of CENEAM, Javier Pantoja, a round of introductions took place where the new participants were introduced to the rest of the group.

Montse Grabolosa and Rosario Toril presented the report on the past period and commented on the Best Poster Award, whose winner Fesabid’15 had won last May at the XIV Spanish Conference of Documentation in Gijón with the poster entitled RECIDA: tu red de información ambiental. In addition, the Marketing Group highlighted the good performance of the first edition of the RECIDA Photo Prize and Chelo Pons presented the video she made of the last seminar.

The commitments made by the Centers were reviewed, most of which have already been fulfilled. The following communications and experiences were presented:

At the end of the day we participated in a historical guided tour of the streets of La Granja, led by Antonio Moreno.

    Thursday 19th May 2016

We began with a presentation by Montserrat Tafalla of CRAI (Learning and Research Resource Center) Law Faculty of University of Barcelona on the creation of constitución de una asociación de profesionales de documentación ambiental. She explained the existing legislation and presented a draft of a possible Statute. Several questions were asked, there was a debate on the issue, and a vote was taken by a show of hands to determine the interest of the participants in the issue. There was a majority in favor, but the draft bylaws and a survey will be sent to the list to determine interest from the other centers.

We then proceeded with communications from the centers:

The Working Groups then met, which this time were as follows:

    • Small Libraries / Parks, coordinated by Rosario Toril. Participants: Pedro Delgado, Rosa Escobar, Marisa Allué, Eva Escario, Conchi Fagundo, Salomé Quintela, Carme Durán and Cristina Orovio. A report was presented on the situation of document management in the National Parks, based on the files sent by each National Park and the Koha program implemented in the Library of the OA Parques Nacionales (OA National Parks), which aims to create a collective catalog of the collections of these protected areas. It was noted that the library is not sufficiently trained and lacks the time to carry out these tasks.
    • Web portal, coordinated by Teresa Antolín. Participants: Ana Dobarganes, Yolanda Monteiro, Montse Tafalla, Elena Morato, Jesús Tramullas, Isidro Aguillo, Irene Hernández, Jacinto Prieto, Alicia Plaza and Clara Blanco.
During the last year, the Catalogs and Collections section has been updated with direct links and a brief description next to each entry. The list of participants has also been updated.
    • Marketing and social networks, coordinated by Javier Puertas. Participants: Montse Grabolosa, Ana Nieva, Teresa Canyelles, Ana Dobarganes, Susana Fernández, Rafael Gabriel, Mar González, Antonio Jorge, Yolanda Monteiro, Elena Morato, Isabel Morón, Marga Muñóz, Ana Pardo, Alfonfo Peña, Chelo Pons, Jacinto Prieto, Xantal Romaguera and Lluís Vicente. The Twitter account was created under the name @RECIDANET and several environmental anniversaries were celebrated, especially on September 17, RECIDA Day, when the prizes for the photo contest were awarded and the video of the Seminar XIV was distributed. As part of the photo contest, a bookmark and a poster were created in Catalan and Spanish. 89 photos were submitted.

After lunch, we went to the Jardines de la Granja (Gardens of La Granja), where we were given a guided tour of La Botica, La Partida de la Reina and the Casa de las Flores by Patrimonio Nacional (National Heritage) staff gave us.

In the afternoon we had the opportunity to continue learning with:

And we ended the day with Lluís Vicente´s workshop on mejorar la difusión de nuestros centros utilizando los 4 pasos del marketing relacional to achieve this: Analysis of Target Group Segments, Service Value, Advertising Channels and Branding. He explained the different concepts using the 5 responses to a survey he had previously sent out to attendees.

During the regional dinner, as a tradition, Carme Duán of the Diputación de Barcelona, read a moving letter from Josep Melero, who was unable to attend this year, and a fragment of the poem “Ribera de los alisos” by Jaime Gil de Bierna from his book Modalidades, in Las Personas del Verbo, and then proceeded to the exchange of books.

    Friday 20th May 2016

We started with Jacinto Prieto from Ingurugela-Bilbao, who presented an experience of collaboration with RECIDA in the doblaje al euskera de un vídeo didáctico sobre el declive de las abejas (dubbing into Basque of a didactic video on bees decline). He stressed the importance of creating personal networks within the framework of these seminars that allow the implementation of collaborative projects.

We continue with the new challenges to overcome until the next seminar.

    • Formation of the RECIDA Association, after sending a survey to the list and outlining the draft statutes.
    • Distribution List. The list of registered persons was reviewed and it was noted that there were centers that were not registered, so we have made up for that. It is recommended to respond to the person requesting something specific that does not affect the rest, and not to the network in general. Also, be alert in case you stop receiving mails because you have not renewed your subscription to the list.
    • Mercedes Barreno will send to the list articles from the Canary Islands Institute of Equality (ICI) magazine that are of interest.
    • Joint projects:
      • Publication of the Environmental Design Guide.
      • Publication of the update of electronic resources on the RECIDA website.
      • Update of the electronic and bibliographic resources of the document Repere.
      • Marga Muñóz asks those present to update the Children 's Literature Guide Verde que te leo Verde. She also asks for help in analyzing the book from an environmental and animation point of view.
      • Participation in congresses.
        • Participation in the IV Jornades de Conservació de Flora i Funga de Olot.
        • We will look into the possibility of participating in the National Congress for the Environment (CONAMA).
      • Continue the Inter-library collaboration between the centers and the dissemination of the list of environmental aids and laws.
      • Contacts with the centers. In Madrid, Andalusia and Castilla-La Mancha, new centers that could become part of the network will be looked for, and the formalization of the centers contacted will be reviewed. As for the international centers, contacts made with France, Italy and Brazil are being consolidated and efforts are being made to extend them to other countries.

    Working groups:

Small libraries / Parks, coordinated by Rosario Toril.

    • Centers request training in the library and Koha document management software.
    • Communication forum for participating centers.
    • Information on the progress of Koha implementation.

    Web Portal:

    • Visualization, structure and coordination of content will be improved. Ana Dobarganes (CEDREAC, Cantabria) will be in charge of this until October, after which the members of the working group will be replaced.
    • Establish a protocol for uploading content to the Internet and submitting it to the list.
    • Publishing with more care and always with metadata.
    • Conduct a workshop on uploading content to the RECIDA website at the next seminar.
    • Adding a legal notice on the web.
    • Isidro Aguillo will look into the possibility of setting up a repository.

Marketing and social network, coordinated by Javier Puertas. The following is proposed:

    • Visible placement of the link to the RECIDA website on the pages of the centers that belong to the network, whenever possible.
    • The second edition of the photo contest will be announced. The announcement will be made on September 17.
    • Dynamization of Twitter. A special announcement will be made on September 17.
    • Creation of a Google Calendar to publish information of interest to each center.
    • Increase the visibility of RECIDA in the activities in which it participates.
    • Continuation of the RECIDA video to disseminate the network.
    • Other topics proposed with different levels of action included: a microstory contest, creating a list of potential collaborators to fund projects, developing and editing dissemination materials, and creating a Scoopit account to curate RECIDA content.

This was followed by an interesting workshop led by Javier Rico on how to achieve greater effectiveness and impact in the media. He provided us with some interesting reflections and literature references on social networks and communication, media, and gave recommendations and showed examples.

Before leaving, we visited the CENEAM Documentation Center to learn about its resources.
