Programa LIFE de la Unión Europea
El Programa LIFE es un instrumento financiero de la Unión Europea dedicado de forma exclusiva al medio ambiente y a la acción por el clima.
El programa está gestionado directamente por la Comisión Europea, a través de su Agencia Ejecutiva para el Clima, la Infraestructura y el Medio Ambiente (CINEA).
La Autoridad Nacional en el Estado español es el Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y el Reto Demográfico. Esta Unidad actúa como Punto de Contacto Nacional del Programa y como representante español en el Comité LIFE.
Desde 1992, año en el que se creó, el Programa LIFE ha cofinanciado más de 6.000 proyectos en toda la Unión Europea y en países asociados, movilizando más de 12.000 millones de euros y contribuyendo con más de 8.000 millones de euros a la protección del medio ambiente y el clima en Europa.
Aunque modesto económicamente en comparación con otros Fondos europeos, el Programa LIFE facilita y promueve la implementación de las políticas de la Unión Europea en materia de medio ambiente y acción climática, contribuyendo al cumplimiento del Pacto Verde Europeo.
Para ello, apoya iniciativas sostenibles de entidades establecidas en la Unión Europea y en países asociados al Programa LIFE; posibilitando la ejecución de proyectos de gran impacto por sus resultados en el territorio, pero también, gracias a su potencial catalítico, replicable y transferible, a nivel europeo.

El Plan vigente es el LIFE 2021-2027 y su Reglamento (UE) 2021/783 del Parlamento Europeo y del Consejo de 29 de abril de 2021 por el que se establece un Programa de Medio Ambiente y Acción por el Clima (LIFE) se publicó el 29 de abril de 2021.
